Dáin I was a king of Durin's folk and the son of Náin II, and older brother of Borin, an ancestor of Balin and Gimli, Glóin, and Óin. He was also father to Thrór, Frór, and Grór, the grandfather of Thráin and Náin, and the great-grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield and Dáin Ironfoot, and great-great-grandfather of Fíli, Kíli, and Thorin Stonehelm.
His great-grandson Dáin Ironfoot was named after him
Biography[]
Dáin I was born as the son of Nain presumably in the Grey Mountains in TA 2440. He ruled the kingdom of the previous named mountains. Dain, along with his second-youngest son, Gror were killed by the Cold-drakes of the Grey Mountains.
Later his sons Thror and Gror split their kingdoms in half.
