Frerin (also known as Prince Frerin of Durin's Folk) was the second-born child and son of Thrain II, the younger brother of Thorin Oakenshield and older brother of Dis. Not much is known about him. All that is known was that Frerin was born in the year TA 2751. He died later during the Battle of Moria in the War of Dwarves and Orcs. There, he perished beneath the East Gate of Khazad-dûm in a wood near the Mirrormere. He is later indirectly mentioned by Balin, stating their deceased were "beyond the count of grief".
Frerin's name is briefly seen on a tapestry that reflected on the Line of Durin when a Lake-man named Bard housed his brother Thorin at his residence.
